Unlike the neighboring Siesta Key and Lido Key, Longboat Key does not offer a large public beach with lifeguards as the beachfront real estate is mostly privately owned. However, just north of Longboat Key via the Longboat Pass Bridge is Coquina Public Beach and Park which offers a large public beach setting with lots of amenities.
Longboat Key also has a dozen beach small access points open to the public which are located in between the private residences and beachside resorts. These beach access points, with some of the most beautiful views of the Gulf, are designated by small street signs as shown below. Parking is limited so it's always best to arrive earlier in the day to secure a parking space. Also, please note that these beach access points do not have lifeguards on duty nor are animals allowed on the beach. See below for a complete list of the beach access points by location.
Just past the Northern end of Longboat Key is Coquina Beach. This beach is a popular destination by tourists and locals alike with its white sandy beaches and many on-site amenities including beachside volleyball courts, a concession stand, restrooms and showers, a 1.5 mile multi-purpose trail as well as many covered picnic tables to enjoy a relaxing lunch in the shade. There is plenty of free public and handicap parking available in the large parking lot.
